The world is mourning today the passing of legendary child actress Shirley Temple. Ms. Temple was arguably one of the most recognizable and iconic stars in the history of motion pictures and during the mid-1930’s she was the biggest movie star on the planet… doing it all under the age of 10. And although she retired from acting at the age of 22 and went on to have a successful career as a diplomat in the 1960’s, it is her film work that most will remember her from. Here at the NYPL you can find an assortment of great Shirley Temple images from our digital gallery including the image above, a cigarette card, from our George Arents Collection. You can also find books about Ms. Temple and dvd’s of some of her films at several branches of The New York Public Library. RIP to a legend.
